- Asansol’s Bastin Bazar Durga Mandir has reopened after being closed for at least 15 years.
- The temple was closed to regular worshippers, but was opened for festivals such as Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja.
- It was closed to appease the minority community, as alleged by the MLA Krishnendu Mukherjee.
- There were reportedly threats of violence if the temple reopens, especially the warnings of “rivers of blood”.
Historic Reopening of Bantin Bazar Durga Temple
The Asansol Bantin Bazar Durga Temple has been reopened after being closed for 15 to 17 years due to threats of violence and minority appeasement politics of the then governments.
BJP MLA Krishnendu Mukherjee said that the previous government closed the gates of the temple due to before mentioned reasons.
Further, the temple was closed despite court orders allowing its opening showing serious lack of enforcement on the government side.
Where is the Bastin Bazar Durga Temple Located?
The temple is located in Bastin Bazar, opposite to MR Residency and near Asansol District Hospital.
If you want to visit the temple, you can take a train to Asansol, a major station with connections to Kolkata, Ranchi, and Siliguri (Jalpaiguri).
